Editor's Note: Congratulations to Beth Owen and Tim Keysear on their recent engagement! They are the fourth couple to be engaged who met on DT Heart & Soul. They tell their story below.
Ours did not start as a fairy tale….
Tim and his wife had two children and they were both disciples in the Springfield Church of Christ. Tim’s wife left him and the church 5 years ago and he was crushed. He remained faithful but experienced the pain of being separated from his kids. He did not have an easy road ahead of him, but God was his strength and he remained close to the brothers and sisters. He became an incredible servant to the church and worked hard to maintain a strong relationship with his kids.
I was baptized in the South Florida Church, and I have been a single mom all of my daughter’s 16 years. Things have never been easy or perfect, but I was content with my situation. I have incredible friends, an awesome God, and I was almost ready to graduate with my B.A. Life was getting better everyday, but I feared being alone after my daughter went to college. I believed I would be on my own once she left and I am much more comfortable in a full house than by myself.
Here is where the fairy tale began….
Neither of us wanted to join DT Heart & Soul. In fact I was more than resistant, but some of the sisters continuously encouraged me to join. Finally one night, I did…..and I waited….but I did not meet anyone. So I stopped looking at it. Tim joined DT Heart & Soul the last part of May. Less than 2 weeks after he joined we had our first communication on June 3rd, which also happens to be my birthday. We began our relationship through email. We talked about everything from Quiet Times to our kids, to conversion stories…after 3 weeks we spoke on the phone for the first time. I knew that I met someone special!
Three months later, Tim and I met at ILC (International Leaders Conference) here in Miami. He asked me to be his girlfriend that weekend. We traveled back and forth a few times and Tim spent a lot of time getting advice about our relationship.
On March 12th Tim asked me to be his wife and I said YES! Our wedding is scheduled for August 6th.
So maybe you do not think you have the makings for a fairy tale….but with our God, anything is possible. In my heart I truly believe that God made me for Tim. I never brought a man to meet my family, I never thought someone was ‘the one’ I really believed that I was going to be a ‘single’ forever. Now, I cannot imagine my life without Tim. He makes me want to be a better woman….leads me back to God constantly…and humbles me!
And now….we continue to live happily ever after!
