Just a week away from electing the next leader of the free world, passions are high. There is much at stake. The candidates want our vote, they propose their solutions to our problems and their roadmaps to our collective future. The people of the United States want a better future and worry about the consequences of choosing the wrong person for the job. Many fear that both candidates are the wrong person for the job. Perceived threats from within are topped only by perceived threats from the outside. ISIS, illegal immigration, and rising tensions with Russia are at the top of everyone's list.
And this is where we need to stop and remember something important. We live in a great democracy, but we are first citizens of heaven, then citizens of a country. Strangely enough, we live in a monarchy spiritually, and that supersedes us living in a democracy physically. The great news is the king we serve is Jesus. Not only does he have power, he has all the power in heaven and on earth. This also means that, our nation, a holy nation, established over two millenia ago, is still our primary nation.
So, as we head to the polls, acting upon our civic duty in a great democracy, let us not forget where our home is. Let us not be anxious about the outcome of an earthly election as we know who holds the ultimate power.
A remarkable manifestation of kingdom unity in the midst of political conflict was a recent Corps on the Neva. Youth from the US and Russia came together for two weeks in St. Petersburg to live out this truth. Check out this five-minute video, created by Third Drive, highlighting this story of love and unity.
