Almost 200 Baptisms in Nairobi this Year

John and Jane Kilaha are the new leaders in the Nairobi, Kenya Church. They recently replaced Steve and Caroline Mukenya, who moved to lead our Zambian church, and George and Anne Irungu (George is now running a local company). The Mukenyas and Irungu's leadership will be sorely missed by everyone in Nairobi. They did an excellent job. New lead evangelist John Kilaha sent us an update recently.

Lakeside Launch: Kisumu Congregation Commences in Kenya

Much of Jesus’ recorded ministry took place around lakes. And recently the Kenya churches had the distinction of launching a congregation in the city of Kisumu on the shores of Lake Victoria, Africa’s largest fresh water lake. Kisumu, home to a population of over 500,000 people, is the third largest city in Kenya and the principal city of western Kenya. Lake Victoria is the source of the River Nile.

New Leadership in East Africa

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

We pray that the Almighty God continues to sustain all of you wherever you are.

The Nairobi Christian Church has been under the leadership of George and Anne Irungu and Steve and Caroline Mukenya who have been co-leading for the last 8 years.  They have done a phenomenal job in steering the churches in Eastern Africa to the point where they are today, and for that the entire church is truly grateful.

New Deacons in Nairobi, Kenya

“ Those who have served well gain an excellent standing and great assurance in their faith in Christ Jesus.” 1 Timothy 3:13

It was a rare moment in the history of the Nairobi, Kenya church when seven couples were ordained as deacons earlier this year at the newly dedicated church building. God’s glory was manifested in a great way as the power of Christ was alive. The faithful attested their joy as they belted out sweet melodious tunes that permeated the air.

Kampala, Uganda: Celebrating 12 New Souls in March

Kampala, the capital city of Uganda, a landlocked country in the center of Africa, is home to a vibrant group of disciples. This month alone, they have had 12 baptisms, bringing the total number of new brothers and sisters added to the family so far in 2011 to twenty one! That is more baptisms in 3 months than any one year total since the church was started. Several baptisms are a result of last year’s Women’s Day. However, the numbers are not the goal – rather it is the excitement of seeing people fall in love with and grow in their relationship with God.

Bountiful Beauty in Burundi: Bujumbura Women’s Day

The sisters of the Bujumbura church in the capital of Burundi had an amazing Women’s Day under the banner of “Spiritual Beauty”. Surrendered and faithful were suitable words to use when looking at their faces leading up to the big event. And God came through as the 17 sisters had an attendance of 159 women, by far the largest Women’s Day attendance for the Bujumbura church.

ICOC Nairobi Sanctuary Inauguration Celebration

It was an auspicious occasion. No, it was neither the pomp of a long-awaited wedding day nor the fine spectacle of a silver church celebration. It was the ICOC Nairobi building inauguration, which marks a milestone in the congregation’s history. Since the church's founding in 1989, members had constantly prayed for ICOC Nairobi’s own church lot and building. Indeed it is just the beginning of greater things for the kingdom.
