18-year disciple baptizes her 82-year-old mom

Maria Thomas, a longtime disciple who is part of the L.A. Church’s north region congregation, has baptized her 82-year-old mother.

The new Christian, Siggy Speros, has since reached out to nearly everyone at her regular bingo game.

“Seniors need to be saved, too,” she said.

At Siggy's tear-filled baptism, a relative testified that Maria had been praying for her mother to become a Christian just about every day since becoming a disciple herself about 18 years ago.

Maria says she now has a special appreciation for the words found in 2 Peter 3:8b-9…

"With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”

Though resistant to the gospel for nearly two decades, Siggy’s heart softened after her daughter took her along to watch two women get baptized. Siggy heard the love in the heartfelt sharing and was inspired by women submitting their lives to the lordship of Jesus Christ.

“This is what I’ve needed; this is what’s been missing in my life,” Siggy said after that baptism. She studied the Bible with sisters in the church nearly every day from that point on until her baptism two weeks later.
