2007 Update from Virginia Tech Ministry

The young church planting of 24 has grown to 60 in three years... For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.-2 Corinthians 4:6

April 16th, 2007 will forever be remembered as a dark, evil day for Virginia Tech and our entire nation. The worst shooting in U.S. history, where 32 innocent people lost their lives started with the first 2 victims falling in the Ambler Johnson dormitory on Virginia Tech’s south side of campus early that morning. The rest of the story that day we all sadly know.

But there is another story of redemption always being written by the God of the universe that no evil, no matter how dark it may be, can overcome or change. Where there is great darkness, the light can shine even brighter. Tanner Versage, a freshman disciple at VT shares:

“Virginia Tech’s campus was surprisingly normal this semester. Students walking to and from class sporting their orange and maroon garb; leaves in succession dawning their proud colors; and another bowl-contending football program that further epitomizes Hokie pride and glory.

But there is an even greater glory on campus- in a place where there was all but glory less than a year ago. The tragedy that occurred at Virginia Tech on April 16th this year will never be forgotten; simply watch the faces of those who pass by the memorial for our fallen 32.

But just as the students have picked up the pace, so too God is moving on our campus. God is now bringing light to a once dark West Ambler Johnson dormitory in a weekly Bible Talk there. The fruit here has built our faith so much already: anywhere from 6 to 12 visitors come every week, many of whom will stay for over an hour extra asking questions and continuing discussion.

God has blessed our campus ministry with 4 baptisms at VT already this school year and more seem to be on the way! God’s light from West Ambler Johnson is spreading to two other bible talks on campus and one at nearby Radford University.”

God’s light at Virginia Tech is spreading throughout southwest Virginia as our church here that started with 24 disciples 3 years ago has just reached 60 in membership!

May God’s light continue to shine in us all no matter how dark it may seem or be- for our God is always writing a story through our lives of redemption- where good triumphs over evil and light shines out of darkness in the end!
