Top 10 Things We Wish We Knew When Going To College

campus_connections_3.jpgComing to college can be an incredibly daunting and overwhelming experience. As a new college student, you’re swarmed by a million things to think about and a million tasks to accomplish.

Not only do you have to strive to be a strong Christian in a non-Christian world, but you’re dealt the hand of suddenly having to feed yourself, clean up after yourself, pay your own bills and get yourself up for class, just to name a few. With this in mind, several of the University of Florida campus students put their heads together and came up of a list of the top ten things they wish they knew before coming to college. For this we made two lists: One is a more serious list that considers spirituality and academia, and the other is for fun, but still contains truth and important information for your collegiate journey… enjoy!

The Top 10 Things UF Students Wish They Knew When We Went to College…

10) This is not high school: Open your books and study for class

9) Study what you really want. Not what's easy, not what seems most lucrative. Study what you dream about.

8) Time is precious and must be managed well

7) Relationships and accountability will not come to you, you have to go after and fight for both.

6) The “perfect person” may surely come knocking at your door. A word: If they do not love the Lord, they are far from perfect, especially for you.

5) College is more about learning how to have a life in God in the midst of the world than about memorizing textbooks or getting straight A's

4) Most likely nothing will work out quite like you planned it: And you should thank God for that.

3) The simple act of openness will save you more than almost anything else you do.

2) No matter where you go or where you are, the Bible is still the same.

1) At the end of the day, God is the ONLY true source of strength, security, consistency and joy.

The Funny Top 10…

10) Your roommates will be strange.

9) The freshman 15 in not a myth: You will gain weight

8) Find out who the dating couples are so you don’t ask one of them on a date.

7) Toilet paper doesn’t magically appear on the roll

6) You cannot, we repeat CANNOT microwave aluminum foil or plastic

5) You will take more naps in college than you did in kindergarten, and this time you’ll appreciate them.

4) “Buy one get one free” signs will become your new best friend

3) Expiration dates are not suggestions

2) We hope you like peanut butter and honey sandwiches and Ramen Noodles: You’ll be living on them for at least the next four years.
