Easter Picnic in Dubai, UAE

In a city that claims many firsts, I think the disciples in Dubai have also made their own first: an Easter egg hunt with turkey eggs!
The church in Dubai truly lives up to its name, the Dubai Intercultural Fellowship (you can find them on the web at www.difchurch.org), with over 120 disciples from approximately 15 countries.

Last Friday after church, the entire church headed to the nearby Safa Park for their annual Easter Picnic.

First and foremost on the children’s minds was, of course, the Easter Egg Hunt. Ninety eggs – chicken and turkey – were hid around the park. The thirty children – like children in any country of the world! – were ecstatic.

Why turkey eggs? They were donated by a brother in the church who is working on a special breeding project that works with birds.

For families, the afternoon brought some fierce competition – and lots of laughter – with relay races as well as sack races. The sack races used 100kg horse feedsacks that almost swallowed some of the disciples whole! And as the pictures atest, the relay races required the contestants to dress up in overalls, don some unique footwear and handwear and carry a tray with glasses of water. Quite the balancing act!

The afternoon’s festivities were concluded with a watermelon eating contest.
